Frequently Asked Questions
DAS, which stands for Dressing Atlanta’s Students, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We provide a week's worth of new school clothing to students in need in Atlanta, completely free of charge to their families.
To be eligible for free clothes from DAS, the following criteria must be met:
- Location: Children must attend a school in Atlanta.
- Age: Children must be school-age (Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade).
- Financial Need: Families must be in financial need of assistance, such as:
- Receiving free or reduced lunch in Atlanta schools.
- Currently receiving services from another social service agency.
- Experiencing a crisis due to a fire, flood, or medical issue.
4. Recommendation: A direct service provider must recommend your child to receive our services. Recommendations must be on official letterhead and can be emailed to [email protected].
The DAS wardrobe includes:
- 5 pairs of underwear/1 new bra for girls
- 5 pairs of socks
- 5 tops
- 3-5 bottoms
- 1 pair of gym shoes
- 1 jacket (seasonal)
The estimated cost for a new one-week wardrobe is $250.
Yes! All wardrobe items are brand new. We care deeply about understanding the needs of children through direct feedback from school service providers, rather than making assumptions about what children need or want by simply collecting gently used clothing of any kind or any quality. This is why DAS allows students to share their style preferences and ensures they receive only new clothing.
No problem at all! DAS will make sure all wardrobe items comply with your child’s school dress code. On the application, children can share their preferred style and color for uniforms, so we can tailor their wardrobe to their tastes.
While students cannot pick out their own specific clothes, they do have the opportunity to share their style and color preferences in the application.
Additionally, students can upload pictures of specific items they like, allowing DAS personal shoppers to do their best to meet their wants and needs.
We strongly believe that giving students a say in their wardrobe helps them feel confident in new, well-fitting school clothing and shoes. This increased confidence can lead to greater success in school and improved social interactions.
It's easy! Just follow these five simple steps:
- Submit Application: A parent or legal guardian submits an application here.
- Add Preferences: The student works with their parent or legal guardian to add personal style preferences.
- Eligibility Confirmation: DAS confirms that the student meets the eligibility requirements.
- We Shop for You: DAS shops for new clothes based on the information provided in the application.
- Delivery: DAS delivers the clothes to our school contact, who will ensure they get home with the family.
YES! Students can qualify TWICE a year to ensure wardrobe items work for all seasons.
Absolutely yes! All clothing donations must be NEW items with tags or in their original packages (i.e. packs of socks). If you have NEW items to donate for children in Pre-K - 12th grade, you can either drop them off in a DAS collection bin located on the front porch of 4952 Leisure Valley Dunwoody, GA or 4661 Glenshire Place Dunwoody, GA. You can also schedule a pick up by emailing [email protected].
We prioritize learning directly from school service providers who work with children in need of clothing, rather than making assumptions about their needs and preferences. That's why DAS encourages students to share their style preferences and exclusively offers new clothing.
YES! Every child that meets the eligibility requirements can apply for a free, new wardrobe.
DAS will deliver your new clothes in a bag to our contact at your school and they will facilitate getting it to you. DAS does not deliver clothing directly to families in order to maintain the privacy of everyone.
- Any direct service providers at your child’s school, including guidance counselors, social works, teachers, principal, and/or school administrators that can verify your child is on free/reduced lunch plan through the state.

We will work with any school in Atlanta that needs our services. Our nonprofit is launching in Dunwoody, GA and our goal is to be able to expand each year to help as many families in Atlanta as possible.
Your school has the power to make a meaningful impact and support our mission in various ways. Consider the following opportunities:
- Sponsor Students: This is an excellent way to give back to the community. By sponsoring a student, your support can provide them with the necessary resources and support they need. DAS will provide all relevant details about wardrobe specifications while maintaining the anonymity of the student. Your classroom can then shop to fulfill their needs and preferences
- Host a New Clothing Drive: Organize a clothing drive at your school to collect new clothing items. This is a great team-building activity and helps ensure that we have a diverse range of clothing to offer to those we serve.
If your school or classroom would like to sponsor a child or hold a new clothing drive, please email [email protected]. Children helping children is a remarkable display of kindness.
Family engagement is key to our mission and we love when families want to sponsor other students! Families will have the opportunity to ‘sponsor’ a student and shop for them using an anonymous profile of the student in order to keep the privacy and dignity of families. The profile will contain pertinent information regarding sizes, style preferences, specific school dress code requirements, and any personalized information received from families.
A family can decide if they would like to sponsor a student for a day, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, or a whole week. A family can sponsor as many students as they would like and sponsor multiple times every year. Families become personal shoppers and once they have their new wardrobe items, they deliver them to DAS or schedule a pick-up.

There are numerous ways your company can make a meaningful impact and support our mission. Here are some key opportunities to consider:
- Sponsor Students: This is a fantastic way to give back to the community throughout the year, especially during the holiday season. Your sponsorship can help students in need receive the necessary support and resources.
- Monetary Donations: Financial contributions are always welcome and enable us to sustain and expand our initiatives, reaching more individuals in need.
- Host a New Clothing Drive: Organize a clothing drive at your offices to collect new clothing items. This is a great team-building activity and helps ensure that we have a diverse range of clothing to offer to those we serve.
If your company sells clothes, we would love to discuss opportunities for collaboration. Specifically, we are interested in partnerships that can include:
- Discount Codes: Providing our personal shoppers with exclusive discount codes to use when purchasing items from your store.
- Excess Inventory: Receiving any excess clothing that you are no longer selling, which can help us offer a wider variety of options to our clients while ensuring that your unsold items find a good home.
We believe that each of these options presents a valuable opportunity for your company to make a significant difference. Your support would be greatly appreciated and impactful.
You can schedule a drop off or pickup by emailing [email protected].
Once a school administrator (or approved referral source) confirms a family qualifies to shop with DAS, the family will fill out their application and DAS will begin the shopping process.
There are two ways that wardrobes will be fulfilled:
- A DAS volunteer will act as a personal shopper using the profile provided and money raised to put together the wardrobe.
- Families will have the opportunity to ‘sponsor’ a student and shop for them using an anonymous profile of the student in order to keep the privacy and dignity of families. Families will drop their items off at DAS or schedule a pick-up.
Once the wardrobe is collected, DAS will deliver the new clothes in bags to the school administrators who will ensure they get to each family.
